Suction can be lost whether it is "computer controlled" or not. There is a condition called "false suction" in which the computer reads adequate suction but in which there is inadequate applanation. As a result, the surgeon is unaware until the the laser is removed from the eye. The Ziemer laser can have all complications such as free flaps, button holed flaps that a mechanical microkeratome has. The IntraLase has a much lower complication rate. In addition, the configuration of an IntraLase flap makes displacement of the flap after the procedure at least four times lower.

Hi,
I hear the reason you need to see the flap created with the intralase is because you lose suction. With the Ziemer you do not and therefore don't need to see it. As it was explained to me, the Ziemer's suction is computer controlled and monitored and the Intralase is only done with a syringe.

Thanks,
John

Great post!! According to me, LASIK is a good investment as it involves lasers to change the shape of the cornea in order to correct vision. Thanks…..
